In an attempt to reduce the number of immigration applications rejected due to incorrect payments, on January 8, 2019 the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) launched an online fee calculator that determines the correct amount to be paid for each form, such as employment authorization, travel documents, naturalization, petitions for relatives, or to modify conditions for residency.
According to USCIS, incorrect fee amounts were a consistent leading cause of rejection in 2017. To prevent this issue from recurring, the fee calculator is now utilized to assist immigrants, petitioners, and foreign individuals in determining the precise amount owed in filing fees.
Depending upon the requirements for each respective application, applicants can pay fees online, by mail or in person at a USCIS office. The agency accepts payment via money order, check, or credit card.
Since last year, USCIS has been improved and modernized its website and procedures. New features include, but are not limited to, the ability to apply for green card replacements and American citizenship online.
